"… it’s our right to express our stories and to really do it in a way that’s beautiful and allows other people to be critical about their surroundings."

Artist and activist Favianna Rodriguez came and spoke to our class last month. Here she is with Davey D, authors Jeff Chang, Jeff Biggers, and Assoc. Professor David Stovall in a conversation about immigration, education and the impact of culture on these issues.

Long narrowing-down session for my Art for Social Change DeCal tonight. We’ve finally got our issue, now it’s time to run with it! I’ll be starting a separate blog for this class soon, I’m so excited!! Let the learning process begin. (Taken with Instagram)

Hello everyone!
This is the first post on the official Art for Social Change at Cal blog!  Here you will find updates about our class’s progress on an art project that is meant to inspire social change on and around UC Berkeley’s campus!
Since this posting a few weeks ago, we’ve changed the direction of our project to allow everyone to work in groups on what they feel most passionate about.  It was too hard to narrow it down from all of those sticky notes!  Our final consensus is an umbrella of Modern Marginalization.  Have you ever felt marginalized?
Our next class meeting is tomorrow night, so look out for more posts, pictures, and first looks into our creative process and community involvement!
